Toastmasters club meetings offer a supportive environment that enables members to enhance their public speaking, communication, and leadership skills through practice and constructive feedback.
The Toastmaster of the Day kicks off the meeting and explains the theme or agenda.
Brief introductions of roles:
Timer
Grammarian, Ah-Counter
General Evaluator
Two to three members deliver speeches based on projects from Pathways, the Toastmasters education program.
Speeches are usually 5–7 minutes long and focus on specific skills (e.g., persuasive speaking, storytelling, body language).
Members (and sometimes guests) are called on to speak for 1–2 minutes on a surprise topic.
Great for improving quick thinking and confidence.
New guests are often welcome and invited to try Table Topics.
Each prepared speaker gets a constructive evaluation from an Evaluator.
The General Evaluator assesses the overall meeting, including evaluators’ performances.
The Grammarian and the Ah-Counter report on the use of language and filler words.
The Timer provides a report to ensure the speakers stay within their allotted time.
Awards may be given (Best Speaker, Best Table Topic, etc.).
Announcements are made.
Anyone 18 and older looking to improve their public speaking or leadership skills is welcome to attend when the sessions are open to the public.
Some clubs, such as corporate and advanced clubs, have attendance requirements; please check with the club in advance.
Supportive and friendly, with an emphasis on personal growth.
Constructive feedback only: no harsh criticism.
Members come from all backgrounds and skill levels.
